Generally we are convinced that we need an excuse to love ourselves: we grew up with the idea that we should take care of other people first and only at the end, if we have time and energy left over, dedicate ourselves a little bit. Whether it is children, partners, parents, friends, colleagues, there is always someone more deserving of attention than ourselves. But if we don't stop every now and then, if we don't try to fuel our energy, little by little the strength to dedicate ourselves to others also disappears.

It is selfishness in the positive sense of the term: I have to love myself to recharge my batteries, to find my path, to make my dreams come true, to take care of my happiness, to truly love myself and, consequently, be able to love others in the best way.

Women and travel? Certain! For women who love to travel, the possibility of setting off alone can represent an excellent opportunity to find themselves in a new dimension, leaving the burdens of everyday life at home and finding in movement and exploratory curiosity that lightness that can help us discover not only new places in the world but also new points of view on ourselves and the reality in which we live.

Sometimes, overwhelmed by tiredness, we tend to magnify situations that, seen "from outside", from afar, we can analyze with more clarity by giving them the right dimension: so why not also use the journey as a tool to review our problem solving skills ? ;-)

This is not a far-fetched hypothesis but a real travel project that will take shape from 30 December 2024 to 4 January 2025.

Women traveling alone in Morocco?

If you can't leave on New Year's Eve but still want to venture to Morocco alone and are wondering if it's possible, the answer is: absolutely yes, even if you are a woman traveling alone!

Morocco is an Islamic country, with a different culture from us but it is also a country very open to the West and accustomed to tourism for many years: traveling with respect, curiosity and education allows you to have wonderful encounters and to see the doors of more genuine welcome.

CLOTHING

In Morocco it is possible to meet people dressed in any way, from the woman with a total veil to the person with very short shorts: the tourist who respects the local culture can calmly wear a t-shirt and shorts, as long as they do not expose the body excessively. Nobody will tell you anything if you wear a tank top but, especially in rural areas less accustomed to tourism, it would be advisable to adopt more appropriate clothing.

TRANSPORT

Public transport covers the entire country from north to south with one important difference. In the northern part, approximately between Tangier and Marrakech, transport is faster, more frequent and efficient (train, bus, etc...) while in the southern part there are almost exclusively private or collective taxis and buses. CTM and Supratour are the most touristy bus companies and also have online ticket offices, while the other less well-known ones that depart from local stations offer unique travel experiences in the company of chickens or an unknown number of people.

If you choose to travel in a "spartan" way, the key word is "flexibility": the duration of a trip is never certain and above all a plan B may be needed in case of missed departures!

In rural areas it is also safe to hitchhike because people who live in simpler conditions are accustomed to helping those they meet on the street.

Also don't rule out the possibility of getting around by renting a car: the roads are very safe because everyone respects the speed limits (fines in case of speeding are immediate and guaranteed!)

PERSONAL SAFETY

Even evening and night outings do not pose a danger. Perhaps avoid the central areas of Casablanca or Fez or the ports, which tend to be frequented by unsavory people.

OTHER INFORMATION

Road signs are written in European characters.

Internet coverage is guaranteed everywhere, except in the most remote or mountainous areas.

Equip yourself with an ESIM before leaving or with a local SIM to purchase at the airport to always have the maps or translator active in case of need.

The most spoken languages are French, English and often also Italian (while the Arabic spoken here is a dialect different from the native language).

There are no luggage stores, so for those traveling on the road it is definitely better to bring light luggage with you.

One last piece of advice: the winter flight times will be released in these weeks! In the meantime, remember to make an appointment at the police station if by chance you need to renew your passport: waiting times are long and it's best not to leave it to the last minute time.
