Trips for families with children in Morocco

Article edited by Milena Marchioni, journalist and family travel blogger, founder of the blog www.bimbieviaggi.it and of the Facebook community "Globetrotter Families", specialized in trips for children and trips for women

When you become parents and start thinking about the first trips in 3 , your thoughts immediately fly to the new "problems" to face: not only the search for the best flight, the most comfortable accommodation and the most efficient means of transport to your destination, but also all the issues related to the new arrival in the family. How will we manage baby food while traveling? And bedtime? What can we do to ensure his enjoyment too? What if something happens now that he's so little? There are always many doubts and they are generally resolved with experience and the advice of those who have already been through it. However, something often happens that few people tell you about: the real "problems" do not concern planning trips with newborns but arrive later.

Children in the first years of life, after all, are very dependent on the mood and passions of their parents. Things change when the little ones grow up, when they start to develop their own passions and get more and more bored if you don't do what their taste and mood suggest: traveling with teenagers is the real challenge!

So can we think about a trip to Morocco for families with children?

Absolutely yes!

Below are some general and more specific tips for organizing a teenager-friendly trip to Essaouira!

Holidays for families with children: two fundamental tips

The success of a trip with girls and boys depends above all on two important factors.

First of all, it is necessary to involve the kids in planning the trip itself, getting advice on certain stages, times, breaks, rest stops... anything that may interest them or meet their needs. Depending on their tastes, we can invite them to read a guide, consult some website with information on the destination or we can focus on social networks. Even if we are not used to using them, we cannot ignore this aspect that is so important for them: on Instagram and Tik Tok there is a lot of interesting content also on family travel destinations. Maybe their favorite singer has just been to Morocco and has published some content about it, or given advice on what to visit in the city. Furthermore, on Instagram you can find the most "instagrammable" places: including some of these stops in your trip planning can become fun for us too and represent a great stimulus for their involvement.

The second factor that should never be underestimated is attention to their passions and tastes. For example, if we love nature trips while they love metropolises, we look for a compromise, including at least one stop in the trip that allows them to have more fun even with their "old people" in tow. If they have a friend or best friend and we feel like bringing her/him with us, it will certainly be a very welcome gift, which will lighten the moments of boredom or the long journeys to travel to your destination.

Family trips to Morocco: what activities to do in Essaouira

Once we followed the more general advice, we arrived at our magical Morocco. Here the choice of activities to enjoy with the whole family is very wide and we have already talked about it in previous articles published on the Ranch de Diabat blog.

Today we are focusing in particular on what to do in Essaouira with kids: a selection of activities and experiences designed for young people who want to have fun, get excited and maybe experience some small or big adventure that gives a bit of adrenaline in complete safety!

Ready to leave with us? Here are 5 ideas for holidays with kids in Morocco.

Quad excursion in Essaouira

Imagine 2 hours up and down the dunes of the beach by the ocean, for an adrenaline-filled, fun experience that allows the older ones to have a first test of driving independently, supported by the staff of the Ranch de Diabat: this is one of the most loved activities by kids who go on holiday to Essaouira so we can only recommend it first!

Horseback riding in Essaouira

Another activity loved by families on holiday in Morocco is horseback riding on the beach, perhaps at sunset. The horse is a faster travel companion than the dromedary and capable of giving emotions, a sense of freedom and the feeling of literally holding the reins of the situation in your hands. Horses are the real protagonists at the Ranch de Diabat and there are various activities that can also be booked online : horse riding

Between sea and wind: surfing in Morocco

Essaouira is also very famous for the beautiful spots where it is possible to surf, windsurf and kitesurf both for beginners and for those who are already experts: its fame attracts champions from all over the world.

The 3 favorite spots for those who love wind and waves are Moulay Bouzerktoun (north of Essaouira), Sidi Kaouki (south of Essaouira) and the southern part of Kite Beach (in Essaouira).

A quieter spot for beginners is Taghazout, between Essaouira and Agadir.

These activities can be organized through Ranch de Diabat, which collaborates with several operators in the area.

Camping in the desert without your parents

If you are traveling in the company of several families with teenagers, you can also consider the possibility of girls and boys spending a night in the bivouac on the beach: a wonderful tented camp where you can experience the thrill of living like a true Moroccan, with the security of having the staff available (and no risk of alcoholic drinks being served ;-)). Attend the most famous music festival in Morocco

If you travel to Morocco with kids at the end of June, you can take part in the very famous Gnaoua World Music Festival, during which mainly Gnawa music artists perform, but also jazz, rock and contemporary music. The festival is particularly loved by a young audience, but people of all ages participate. Entrance is open to all and is free, there are 3 stages and fun is guaranteed for the whole family.

In 2024 the festival celebrates its 25 years and the entire program is on the official website: gnawa festival

A tip for those traveling with the family: in this period accommodation in Essaouira is selling like hotcakes, so it is better to rent a car and travel a few kilometers from the city, perhaps staying in a beautiful villa where we can all be comfortably together before going to sing and dancing under the stage.

So, what do you think, are your boys and girls a little curious? We are sure that Morocco will conquer them.
