The 3-hour horseback riding excursion is suitable for all riding levels; our instructors will be able to manage the group thanks to their experience and the gentle nature of our Arab-Berber horses, trained for every type of rider.
The 3-hour horseback riding excursion starts from the Ranch, where you will be instructed on how to mount the horse.
Leaving Ranch de Diabat, you will head towards the forest of mimosa and eucalyptus, crossing the dunes, and arrive at the beautiful wild beach where you can canter (according to your riding experience) and breathe in the iodine of the Atlantic Ocean.
Gradually, you will approach a small fishing village, continuing along a wild and unspoiled beach until you reach the freshwater springs flowing from the beach, where many semi-wild animals habitually come to drink (cows, donkeys, dromedaries, and seagulls).
From here, you will return north towards Essaouira, and before your eyes will open the Portuguese Castle, which once served as a lookout for pirate ships arriving from the coast, now in ruins and exposed to the elements, but with an ancient charm to admire.
You will be able to admire Mogador Island and observe the ancient prison and mosque still intact, but unfortunately not accessible, as the island hosts a rare species of falcon and is therefore a protected natural reserve.
You will continue along the Kassob River, where you will find seasonal migratory birds of rare beauty on its waters. Finally, you will pass the remains of the Palace of Sultan Moulay Abdallah, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The 3-hour horseback riding excursion will conclude at Ranch de Diabat, where you can rest on the terrace until the staff accompanies you to Essaouira by free shuttle, or you may leave independently if you arrived with your own vehicle.
It is possible to take the 3-hour horseback riding excursions every day of the week by appointment and subject to the availability of instructors and horses.
Riders who wish may participate in preparing the horse, from grooming to saddling before setting out on the ride.
Program
Alternatively, if you have a vehicle, it is easy to reach the Ranch, 3 km from the city center. At the time of booking the horseback riding package, you will be sent the map and GPS point via email. You can park safely in the Ranch’s private parking lot.
You will be welcomed by our staff, who will show you the equestrian safety instructions, and you can complete the rental contract and meet your instructor who will help you choose the helmet in your size.
Recommended clothing is long pants and closed shoes. The rider’s weight must not exceed 90 kg to preserve the health of our Arab-Berber horses.
You will admire the unspoiled forest of Mimosa and Eucalyptus rooted in tall sandy dunes, the beautiful ocean beach, the surrounding dunes, the Portuguese Castle, a fishing village, the freshwater springs flowing on the beach, the large dunes, the banks of the Kassob River, the Sultan’s Palace, and much more.
Prepare Yourself
- The maximum allowed rider weight is 90 kg (the organization reserves the right to refuse participation in the trek to those who do not declare their actual weight if it exceeds the limit, and no refund will be provided. The health of the horses is the priority)
- Riding Level: It is not necessary to have a riding level to take part in this excursion; beginners are also accepted, but in their case, the possibility to trot and canter is not guaranteed and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
- Clothing: To participate in this horseback riding excursion, please wear long pants and closed shoes

Horse rental, equestrian guides, riding helmets, transportation to and from the city of Essaouira.

BOOKING CONDITIONS:
All activities must be paid in advance in order to be confirmed.
BOOKING CONFIRMATION:
The booking will be confirmed upon receipt of the confirmation email sent by our staff or by the booking system, once the balance has been paid.
PAYMENT METHODS:
- Bank transfer to a Moroccan bank (sending proof of payment by email at least 7 days before the activity is mandatory)
- International credit card (Mastercard, Visa, American Express – via PayPal or Factobox)
ON-SITE PAYMENT:
For on-site bookings, for which availability cannot be guaranteed without advance payment, it is possible to pay in cash (Moroccan dirhams).
CANCELLATION CONDITIONS:
Any interruption of the activity requested by the client for any reason requires dedicated assistance, which involves an additional cost. This cost will be charged on site, communicated at the time, and depends on the location where the client interrupts the activity.
The client agrees to pay this cost.
Please note: weather conditions or illness are not covered by the organizer but by the client’s own travel insurance.
In the event of cancellation by the client, the following penalties will apply:
- More than 30 days before arrival: 30% of the total booking amount will be retained
- Between 29 and 10 days before arrival: 60% of the total booking amount will be retained
- Between 9 and 3 days before arrival: 75% of the total booking amount will be retained
- Less than 48 hours before arrival: 100% of the total booking amount will be retained
CHILDREN CONDITIONS:
Young children also pay the full price, as they will ride on a horse led by a dedicated instructor. Safety vests and riding helmets will be provided. For safety reasons, it is strictly forbidden for a child to ride on the same horse as an adult. Only the instructor may, if necessary, take a small child on the saddle; however, preferably, the instructor will accompany the child on foot, staying alongside them.
