The two-hour horseback ride in Essaouira at the Ranch de Diabat offers an excellent combination of time and cost for an intense equestrian experience; you can explore the lush nature in a short amount of time at a price accessible to everyone.
Leaving the Ranch de Diabat, you will set off towards the mimosa and eucalyptus forest, through the dunes, until you reach the beach, where you can gallop, breathe in the salty air of the Atlantic Ocean and approach a small fishing village.
On the way back you will admire the Portuguese Castle located on the beach, which once served as a lookout for pirate ships arriving on the coast, and now in ruins and at the mercy of the elements, but still with an ancestral charm.
You will be able to admire Mogador Island up close and observe the ancient prison and the mosque still intact.
You will continue along the Kassob River, on whose waters you will find seasonal migratory birds of rare beauty.
Finally, you will pass by the remains of the Palace of Sultan Moulay Abdallah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will then return to the Ranch de Diabat, where you can rest on the terrace, use the restrooms, and make yourself comfortable.
The staff will take you back to Essaouira via the free shuttle, or you can set off on your own if you arrived with your own transport.
Rides are available every day of the week by appointment and based on the availability of teachers and horses.
Plan
For those with a car, it's easy to reach Ranch de Diabat, located just 3 km from the city center. You'll be emailed a map and GPS location, and you can park in the Ranch's private parking lot.
Upon your arrival at Reception, you will be greeted by our staff who will show you the equestrian safety instructions, and you will be able to fill out the rental contract and meet your instructor who will help you choose the right helmet size.
Recommended attire is long trousers and closed shoes, and the rider's weight must not exceed 90 kg to preserve the health of our Berber Arabian horses.
Prepare yourself as best as possible
- The maximum permitted weight of the rider is 90 kg (The organization reserves the right to deny admission to the trek if anyone who fails to declare their actual weight exceeds the limit, and no refunds will be given. The health of the horses comes first.)
- Equestrian Level: To take part in this excursion it is not necessary to have an equestrian level, even beginners are accepted, but in their case we do not guarantee the possibility of trotting and galloping, which will be examined on a case-by-case basis.
- Clothing: To participate in this horseback excursion, please wear long trousers and closed shoes.

Horse rental, equestrian guides, riding helmets, transportation to and from the city of Essaouira.
Private activity available with payment of a supplement.
BOOKING CONDITIONS:
All activities must be paid in advance in order to be confirmed.
BOOKING CONFIRMATION:
The booking will be confirmed upon receipt of the confirmation email sent by our staff or by the booking system, once the balance has been paid.
PAYMENT METHODS:
- Bank transfer to a Moroccan bank (sending proof of payment by email at least 7 days before the activity is mandatory)
- International credit card (Mastercard, Visa, American Express – via PayPal or Factobox)
ON-SITE PAYMENT:
For on-site bookings, for which availability cannot be guaranteed without advance payment, it is possible to pay in cash (Moroccan dirhams).
CANCELLATION CONDITIONS:
Any interruption of the activity requested by the client for any reason requires dedicated assistance, which involves an additional cost.
This cost will be charged on site, communicated at the time, and depends on the location where the client interrupts the activity.
The client agrees to pay this cost.
Please note: weather conditions or illness are not covered by the organizer but by the client’s own travel insurance.
In the event of cancellation by the client, the following penalties will apply:
- More than 30 days before arrival: 30% of the total booking amount will be retained
- Between 29 and 10 days before arrival: 60% of the total booking amount will be retained
- Between 9 and 3 days before arrival: 75% of the total booking amount will be retained
- Less than 48 hours before arrival: 100% of the total booking amount will be retained
CHILDREN CONDITIONS:
Young children also pay the full price, as they will ride on a horse led by a dedicated instructor. Safety vests and riding helmets will be provided.
For safety reasons, it is strictly forbidden for a child to ride on the same horse as an adult. Only the instructor may, if necessary, take a small child on the saddle; however, preferably, the instructor will accompany the child on foot, staying alongside them.
