3-Hour Essaouira Desert Trek
An unmissable opportunity to visit historical and naturalistic sites, through a walking excursion organized by Ranch de Diabat.
During your Morocco tour , your guide will lead you through varied terrain, sometimes sandy and rocky, entering the heart of a mimosa and eucalyptus forest, and along a river. You'll climb the great dunes, spotting the Eleonora falcons of Mogador Island.
You can stroll along the ruins of the Sultan's Palace, imagining yourself stepping back in time, and then glimpse the wind farm that harnesses the wind to provide electricity to the region. A true cultural and natural immersion that will pass quickly in the company of your expert guide and his explanations.

Plan
For those with a car, it will be easy to reach the Ranch de Diabat, located just 3 km from the city center. You will be sent a map and GPS location by email, and you can park with complete peace of mind in the Ranch's private parking lot.
Upon your arrival at Reception, you will be greeted by our staff who will show you the route you will be taking and introduce you to your guide.
Leaving the Ranch de Diabat, you will take the road that runs alongside the Qsob River, where you can admire various migratory and resident birds. From here, you will immediately arrive at a historic site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the palace of Sultan Moulay Ben Abdallah. Here, you can walk among the remains of this splendid ancient palace and listen to the history your guide will tell you.
From here to the beach, through some wonderful dunes, from which, at a certain point near their summit, you can admire the ocean as far as the eye can see.
Going down you will arrive at the Portuguese Castle built by the Phoenicians as a guard outpost for ships arriving from the coast.
Continuing south, you can visit the beautiful mimosa and eucalyptus forest, with its ups and downs on the sandy terrain.
You will come to an ancient well where animals drink, and it is therefore common to come across groups of sheep and goats, dromedaries, cows and calves, and donkeys.
Your guide will prepare tea for you over a wood fire as per nomadic tradition . It will be a wonderful moment of sharing, learning how to prepare tea and follow this ritual.
When it's time to return to base, you'll head back into the forest until you reach the dunes that line the river, then return to the Ranch de Diabat where you can say goodbye to your guide and be taken back to Essaouira.
Prepare yourself as best as possible
- Level: to take part in this excursion you need to be in good physical condition to be able to walk on terrain that varies between soft and hard sand, with some ups and downs and for a duration of approximately 3 hours with a stop, and between 8 and 10 km of distance covered.
- Clothing: To participate in this walking excursion, please wear comfortable long or short trousers and closed shoes, a 10-15 litre backpack with water, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, Nordic walking poles are recommended for those who want them, and a scarf and a light jacket to protect against the wind.

- Bank transfer to a Moroccan bank (sending proof of payment by email at least 7 days before the activity is mandatory)

ON-SITE PAYMENT:
For on-site bookings, for which availability cannot be guaranteed without advance payment, it is possible to pay in cash (Moroccan dirhams).
CANCELLATION CONDITIONS:
Any interruption of the activity requested by the client for any reason requires dedicated assistance, which involves an additional cost. This cost will be charged on site, communicated at the time, and depends on the location where the client interrupts the activity.
The client agrees to pay this cost.
Please note: weather conditions or illness are not covered by the organizer but by the client’s own travel insurance.
In the event of cancellation by the client, the following penalties will apply:
- More than 30 days before arrival: 30% of the total booking amount will be retained
- Between 29 and 10 days before arrival: 60% of the total booking amount will be retained
- Between 9 and 3 days before arrival: 75% of the total booking amount will be retained
- Less than 48 hours before arrival: 100% of the total booking amount will be retained
CHILDREN CONDITIONS:
- Children from 0 to 4 years old are free of charge and must be carried by an adult family member in a child carrier backpack
- Children from 5 to 8 years old pay half price
- Children from 9 years old pay the full price
It is possible to book a support dromedary to follow the group and carry tired children on its saddle. The cost of this extra service is €40. A maximum of two people may ride on the dromedary saddle.
