8-day horseback riding excursion through Moroccan lands
During this trip to Morocco , you'll delve into the hinterland of the Essaouira region. You'll cross the largest argan and cedar forest. These trees have built the area's reputation for craftsmanship, thanks to their marquetry and their oil, which has many properties.
This equestrian trekking tour will give you the opportunity to visit a women's cooperative that produces argan oil, observe the process, which is still done by hand, and taste the edible oil, which has excellent health benefits. You'll visit the local souk (market), the ancient sugar factories, and pass by the largest argan tree in the region.
During the horseback trek, you will cross wonderful canyons along the Ksob River, which with its branches provides nourishment to local crops and the many wild palms.
Discovering Berber villages, culture and traditions
Along the way, you'll have the chance to encounter numerous dromedaries roaming in semi-freedom, grazing cows, goats and sheep with shepherds, and donkeys and mules working the fields. The friendliness of the locals is a highlight of this equestrian experience , including stopping for a cup of tea at someone's home and enjoying some impromptu homemade bread. These are everyday activities, part of the wonderful surprises this trip to Morocco offers.
You will cross the great dunes of Cap Sim, the very long beach that connects Sidi Kaouky to the city of Essaouira, where you can gallop in serenity and finally experience the feeling of freedom, running with our faithful Arab-Berber steeds.
Our horseback riding tour starts and ends at the Ranch de Diabat equestrian center in Essaouira.
Plan
Day 1: Arrival
Meet and greet at Marrakech or Essaouira airport, transfer to Essaouira. Briefing on the trek. Dinner and overnight at a hotel.
Day 2-6: Between beaches, dunes and rivers
Horseback trekking to discover the Essaouira region, with five hours of daily horseback riding, including walking, trotting, and cantering. After leaving the city of the trade winds for the beaches and dunes, you'll cross wadis (rivers), farmland, and fields of argan trees, encountering pristine and wild landscapes.
This ride is a succession of hills and gorges carved by the river, where the water allows for the growth of olive trees and oleanders. During the horseback trek, you'll have the opportunity to visit ruins dating back to the Portuguese era, an argan oil cooperative run by Berber women, and ancient stone villages. At the end of each day, you'll find yourself immersed in the heart of a nomadic bivouac.
The bivouac is set up sheltered from the wind, where you can enjoy a typical Moroccan meal before spending the night under a Berber tent. Dinner and overnight stay in the bivouac.
Day 7: Discovering the Coast
The last day is dedicated to exploring the coast: the dunes, fishing villages, and some cliffs and promontories to explore. Lunch at the Ranch and a free afternoon for shopping in Essaouira's medina or a relaxing massage in a hammam (Turkish bath, massages, and other treatments are at your own expense). Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Essaouira.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to Marrakech or Essaouira airport.

The travel insurance we require must include cancellation coverage if the customer withdraws before the trip for their own reasons. If the customer does not wish to take out this insurance, they may do so, being responsible for the cancellation and the resulting non-refund of travel expenses.
We also require medical coverage during the trip, which is mandatory for trekking bookings. Medical insurance must cover any illness or accident during the trip and include horseback riding as a non-competitive activity.
We can recommend what our customers tell us after many years of trekking. Heymondo offers a single insurance policy that covers both cancellation and accidents, and horseback riding can be included. Our recommendation is based on positive customer reviews. If you have had good experiences with other insurance policies, please let us know.
Please note: insurance must be purchased at the same time as purchasing the horse trekking.
Ranch De Diabat has its own insurance, however each customer is required to have their own.
