Argan Trek

Welcome at Marrakech or Essaouira airport, transfer to Essaouira. Briefing on the trekking itinerary. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Horseback trekking to discover the Essaouira region with 5 hours a day on horseback, during which you will walk, trot, and canter. After leaving the city of the Trade Winds towards the beaches and dunes, you will cross the wadis (rivers), farmland, and Argan tree fields to encounter pristine and wild landscapes.

This ride is a succession of hills and river-carved gorges, where the water allows the presence of olive and oleander trees. During the horseback trekking, you will have the opportunity to visit ruins dating back to the Portuguese era, an Argan oil cooperative run by Berber women, and ancient stone villages. At the end of each day, you will find yourself privileged in the heart of a nomad bivouac.

The bivouac is set up sheltered from the wind, where you can enjoy a typical Moroccan meal before spending the night under the Berber tent. Dinner and overnight in bivouac.

Last day dedicated to discovering the coast: dunes, fishing villages, and some cliffs and headlands to bypass. Lunch at the Ranch and free afternoon for shopping in the Medina of Essaouira or a relaxing massage in a hammam (Turkish bath, massages, and other treatments are at your own expense). Dinner and overnight in a hotel in the city of Essaouira

Transfer to Marrakech or Essaouira airport.

Maximum allowed weight 90kg (the organization reserves the right to refuse trekking participation to those who do not declare their actual weight if it exceeds the limit, and no refund will be provided. The health of the horses is the priority)

Please book a flight arriving at Marrakech airport by 14:00 on the day of arrival so that other participants do not have to wait too long. If your flight arrives after 14:00, a small surcharge will be charged for extra transport to Essaouira, provided by bus instead of taxi. If the bus schedule is not compatible, you can use a private taxi at €80 to share with those arriving late.

For the return, please book a flight from Marrakech departing after 12:00. Those who need to fly earlier can use a private taxi at €80 to share with others leaving early. Count 6 hours before the flight departure time, including 3 hours for the road from Essaouira to Marrakech and 3 hours to be at the airport on time.

The travel insurance that we require to be taken out must include cancellation if the client withdraws before the trip for personal reasons. If the client does not want to take out this insurance, they will be responsible for the cancellation and the consequent non-refund of travel expenses.

We also require medical coverage during the trip, which is mandatory for trekking bookings. The medical insurance must cover any illness or accident during the trip and include horseback riding as a non-competitive activity.

Ranch de Diabat has its own insurance; nevertheless, each client is required to have their own personal insurance.

To participate in a multi-day horseback trekking with us and our beautiful Arabian Barb horses, we need to select riders:
- be skilled in the three gaits walk, trot, canter when required
- with a maximum weight of 90kg
- a good posture at the trot to avoid injuring the horse's back
- take care of the assigned horse during the trekking, saddle, unsaddle, clean, give water and food
- valid passport with 6 months remaining at the date of entry into Morocco

The experience is immersive and includes all these things that help create an even truer bond with the horse that will carry you around.

Accommodation for the first and last night is in a hotel. In the case of single travelers: if we do not find anyone for a double or triple room (men with men and women with women), we must charge a supplement of €30 for a single room per night per person. The same supplement applies to those who want a single room.

Accommodation during the trekking will be in shared tents for 6 people, or if you prefer, in 2-person igloo tents.

Your bivouac is equipped with a shower with warm water.

Your meals are prepared by our chef who will introduce you to the richness of Moroccan cuisine. The menu takes into account the diets or food allergies of participants, communicated in the registration form.

It is customary at the end of the trip to leave a tip for the staff who took care of you during the experience, which can range from 7 to 10% of the trip value.

Soft suitcase, not hard.

Bring some t-shirts, cotton clothes, a long-sleeved shirt for sun protection, a fleece for the wind, two/three riding pants, a waterproof poncho.

Boots or trekking shoes, gaiters or chaps.

Do not forget your sleeping bag, flashlight for the night, tissues, underwear, and medication to prevent intestinal infections.

Water bottle, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.

Regarding electric charging, it will never be available, so please organize with some solar power banks and check the maximum voltage allowed by your airline.

Each horse is equipped with a trekking saddle and saddlebags that will allow you to carry your lunch and personal items needed for your day on horseback. It is recommended for sensitive individuals to bring a sheepskin as protection on the saddle, which can be easily found in riding shops both in Morocco and abroad.
